9 Months

My little bambino is 9 months already!  I feel like this 9 months went by much faster than the 9 months I carried him.  He are a few things we noticed about him this month:

  • Beckett finally got his first tooth!  I think Gray got his first tooth around 8 months so I knew it had to be coming soon.  Sure enough, it popped up around 8 1/2 months.  He got a second one just this week.  Both are the lower middle teeth.
  • He continues to be extremely mobile.  Anytime you put him on the floor, he is off and crawling.  It's very rare you find him in the same place you left him so we have to be pretty attentive because he is starting to get into everything.
  • Standing is still a favorite past time of his.  He will immediately pull himself up on anything he can grab.  We are starting to see signs of him wanting to stand on his own and even saw him take a few steps with the activity walker the other night.  My prediction is he is walking by the end of this month.
  • He seems to be more verbal but the only sound he regularly makes is "da-da".
  • He is eating better and increased the amount of food he has at school.  I even think he is starting to learn some sign language.  He sort of gives us an "all done" sign when he's had enough food. I will probably start feeding him more "real" food soon.  He really likes bananas so I'm hoping to throw in some avocado, sweet potatoes, eggs, peaches, peas and other soft foods.
  • Beckett officially has his first set of tubes!  Surgery last month was a success and he handled it pretty well.  That afternoon while I was home with him, you could tell he seemed to feel better and seemed much happier.  We went 2 weeks after surgery for a post-op hearing test and check-up which he passed with flying colors.
  • Sleep has been interesting.  After his surgery he seemed to sleep better but then we entered a small 1-2 week window where we felt like he would never sleep more than an hour or two without crying.  We caved and let him sleep with us at night so all of us could try to get alittle sleep.  We then attempted to sleep train him a couple of nights which ended up being rather long.  I have a feeling this was during the breakthrough of his second tooth because the last couple of nights he has done alot better.  We aren't out of the woods yet, but we remember Gray going through this same phase.
  • He's still wearing size 3 diapers.
  • He wears some 9 month clothes and alot of 12 month clothes.
  • Weight: 18lbs, 7oz (20th percentile)
  • Height: 29 1/4 inches (80th percentile)
We truly love our Beckett (or as Grayson likes to call him "my Beckett")!  He is such a sweet little boy with a happy disposition.  I don't know how or what Shane and I did to get so lucky in love with our two boys.

July has been a crazy month so far and the madness will only continue.  I am so excited to be opening my first dog park next Friday!  This project seems to have taken forever due to weather delays but it is finally coming together.  Grayson calls it "Aspen's Park" and says "Mommy made it for him".  He may have been told that a time or two and I honestly can't disagree with him. :) I have been fully involved in the process from design, to construction and even assisting my staff with lying the sod last week.  This is definitely something I have wanted to do since I started working for the city almost 12 years ago and can't believe it's actually happening.  Shane is going to bring Aspen and Grayson to the ribbon cutting so I'm sure we will have pictures.  We will be building a second dog park that I hope to begin designing soon with our architect that will be 3 times as large.

Shane is plugging along with the business and has sessions with various kids every week.  The big focus this summer is the college application process for many of his kids.  Next week I'm hoping to make a trip down to his office to check it out and meet his business partner.

We are both looking forward to our family beach vacation in a couple of weeks.  I can't wait to spend time with my friends and see our kids interact with one another.  It's going to be crazy having 6 adults and 6 kids all under one roof, but I know it will be a memorable experience for all of us.

The temperatures are on the rise now after a mild start to the summer.  The boys are currently in the second week of their swim lesson session and seem to be enjoying it.  Grayson is taking a class without us and doing really well working with just an instructor. I know he won't be swimming on his own by the end of this week but I do feel like he is comfortable in the water and will be able to develop his swimming skills more easily in the coming years.

Everyone stay cool!  Here are some other photos from the past month.

 Pre-surgery serious face
It was 6:15am so both of us are fairly tired.

 Post surgery breakfast

 All smiles after surgery!

I came around the corner at daycare and
caught this little guy waiting for me at the door.

 First bubble bath!

 Always smiling at school.

He is officially climbing stairs now.
Gray may be encouraging him from time to time.

 Beckett started swim lessons
Shane and I have traded off getting in the pool
with Beckett

Gray is taking swim lessons, too!
That instructors name is actually Grayson!

Popsicles in the backyard pool

My cousin was in town from Reno so they came over
for dinner one night.  Gray loved playing with Kaylee.
I love how he's tuning his guitar.

Grayson is also back in soccer and doing really well!  It seems like he's starting to understand the concept more and enjoying the experience.  Here are two videos of him from class.

Landon Wade Bruce
My dearest friend, Courtney, has brought another sweet boy into this world.  Landon Wade Bruce was born on July 13 at 11:21am.  He was 8lbs, 5oz and 20" long.  I was lucky enough to meet him the day he was born and he is so stinkin cute!  Courtney already has two little girls (Emma, 4 and Maggie, 3).  She held out for 9 months and didn't find out what she was having!  I don't know how she did it but what a great surprise and addition to her family with this perfect little boy.  I am so happy for her!  She has already told me she doesn't know what to do with boys, but I think we will be able to help her and Billy out and hopefully provide them with some sound advice.  ;)  I can't wait for us to have mother/son excursions with her and Landon!
